flatfoot asked:

I have alot of silverware that has been stained over the years. I don't want to have to use anystore bought products because I am afraid it may do more harm than good.

To remove tarnish from a small piece of silver, cover the bottom of a heatproof glass container with a piece of aluminum foil, shiny side up. Place the tarnish item in the container. Add one heaping tablespoon of baking soda, then pour enough boiling water to cover the item. The tarnish will collect on the foil. Remove the piece, rinse it thoroughly, and polish it with a soft cloth.

Remember that fine silverware should be used frequently, not packed away for special occasions. Constant wear actually enhances the beauty of a solid piece by giving it a deep, mellow patina.

Also, as soon as your done using silverware was it in hot sudsy water and rinse it in clear hot water.

Dip polish will remove tarnish from silver, but they will also remove any oxidized pattern.

Step 1:
Place a sheet of aluminum foil at the bottom of your sink.

Step 2:
Fill the sink half-way with lukewarm water.

Step 3:
Add two tablespoons of salt.

Step 4:
Place your silver pieces in the water. Allow them to soak for about 10 minutes.

Step 5:
Ionization will occur and the tarnish will transfer to the aluminum foil.

Step 6:
Take the silver piece out of the water and dry with a soft cloth.
