i have a 17 month old that wont even try to use a fork/spoon. i show him how to and work with him at every meal. this isnt recent either. i have been doing this since he was about 12 months. ive used toddler spoons and metal spoons. i know that your not suppose to compare kids, but all the kids in my daughters daycare, when she was going, were eating with spoons by this age. he doesnt even show interest? any advice is appreciated.

Does he use his hands to try to eat or do you feed him if he doesn't use the spoon/fork himself?
Just asking because he may just like you to feed him.
You need to put the food on his fork/spoon and hand it to him each time. Put a piece of his food on the fork, hand it to him so he can feed himself, and then praise him for using it. You can't just hand him a fork or a spoon and expect him to put the food on it and feed himself.
Hi delicate...., dont worry, soon your daughter will learn how to use it. it maybe takes time for her to get use... But dont surprise if she can use it in proper way!!!
He may be still to young to have coordination to do it. My daughter is 20 MO and she just started using the spoon. Give him a spoon and let him experiment with it and allow him using his hands. Let him observe you and he will want to imitate what you do. My daughter likes to use two spoons (one in each hand) because she's imitating fork and knife :-)
My 16 month old would not use silverware and would not let anyone feed her. I always put silverware out for her one day she just picked it up and started using it. All my worries were for nothing , hopefully yours will be too.
